Hogs Radio |
|
Hey guys! I'm calling it an experiment for now, but if the first few hours are any indication, it looks like Hogs Radio is back! Using a slightly new setup and keeping my fingers crossed that Awcast works correctly this time, we're going to try going 24/7 again like it used to be.
We're still kind of experimenting with the musical selection right now, but I'm imagining there will be some holiday-special music on the weekends and whatever stream I happen to find during the week. Maybe we can intersperse some special Hogs shows and events from now until Christmas (now that it looks like I'm going to feel better consistently) and you can be sure if we're having a game it's going to be on the radio (with the possible exception of most of the mud-wrestling events). And keep checking the forum: You never know what might be scheduled on the radio for that night.
Thank you Kb for the vote of confidence, and we'll see you all on Hogs Radio!

Just to update--it looks like the constant music source I chose isn't all that constant after all, but goes silent after a long period of inactivity. So if you're listening today and wonder what happened, you'll know why. I'll be looking for another more reliable source and would welcome any suggestions y'all got.

Another slight setback - Evidently every music source I've tried so far either times out or simply won't allow you to play continuously without some sort of supervision. So you will notice that the radio is off this morning. This doesn't mean we've given up the 24/7 goal, but it is delayed. I am pleased to announce that Awcast is working very well lately, so for now that part of the equation is solved. Bit since I can't monitor it 24/7 (and I'm not sure I'd ever want to), we'll make do until we find some solutions.

I do have a solution for your music that you may or may not choose to do and will discuss with you via skyoe once I get home on Sunday.

Of course the solution I have in mind right now is one I'm not sure the Wench would approve of--patching the Digital Cable feed from the living room into the computer room..LOL!

LMAO!!! If you've got long enough wires, more power to ya. There is a way it could be done. You would have to route the wires up along the ceiling instead of on the floor (brings back memories of my dad wiring the whole house so he could play the hi-fi in the living room and hear it in his bedroom- upstairs). I don't think we have long enough wires though.

Update - The first week back on has seen some challenges, but has brought a lot of learning and discovery too. While still not 24/7 as we would all like, we're getting closer every day. Last night for example was the first time the music source stayed on all night. Problem is the Awcast software shut off at some point. Oh well. We'll get it figured out, if not with this software package then with something else.
